As many as 100.000 African migrants are in Morocco, data from the International Organization for Migration show. The migrants are overwhelmingly young men; determined to inch north.

Here in the north of Morocco; Tetuan, Tangier and Nador are considered to be the main three cities for migrants to cross Europe or settle in Ceuta and Melilla.

Up to 1.000 African migrants have tried to storm a border fence separating Morocco from the Spanish enclaves Ceuta and Melilla, but their attempts are often stopped by border guards.

Melilla is one of the two Spanish-held cities on the northern coast of Africa, the other being Ceuta to the east. The number of migrants attempting to cross has risen in recent years; many try in groups to overwhelm the security forces and according to estimates by the Interior Ministry in Madrid, about 40.000 Africans of sub-Saharan origin are waiting for the opportunity to go to Spain.

The sub-Saharan migrants live in many countries illegally and remain a visible but marginalized part of the country they are in. many of them are ambivalent about their new homes because of the racism they face.
